- Choose a neutral color. You can’t go wrong with white or off-white – bolder colors go out of style quicker.
- Consider open cabinetry. Depending on the type of cabinets you have, simply taking off the doors and leaving the shelving open can make the room look completely different.
- Contrast the colors. White walls should go with black cabinets, and vice versa.
- Concentrate on the cabinets on your island – sometimes, all it takes is a dramatic island to make the room completely different.
- Have you considered a whiter shade of pale – or, specifically, grey, for your kitchen? While it’s a muted color, and not always effective, it can make all the difference in the world in your kitchen. In addition, it evokes a more “classic” feeling than the more sterile black and/or white.
- Got kids? Consider painting the lower cabinets with chalkboard paint to allow them to express their creativity (and to prevent you from freaking out if Johnny and/or Amber gets his/her hands on something to draw on the cabinetry).
- Indecisive about colors? No big deal – just pick two (or more!) of your favorite complimentary colors to paint your cabinets. There’s no law stating you can’t add as many colors as you want in your kitchen to make it look as colorful as you’d like.
